AMS Flashback: Uncle Remi and the Rolling Stones

By Scott Siegel

I remember one time I went down to the Pig N’ Whistle in Hollywood to see Burning Wagon play. Burning Wagon was fronted by Crazy Tomes and former guitar player Billy Joe Daniel. Also, ex drummer Bill Spoke backed them up and sometimes Nick Gonzalez on bass. Anyway, Tomes told me to come down that night because a famous percussion player Remi Kabaka, who played with The Rolling Stonesnk”>Sympathy for the Devil” was going to be there. So during their performance of Satisfaction, Tomes invited me up to sing a verse with them and Remi. After the show, Remi came over to me and said “Hey man. Wow. You have some killer vocals.” He, then, told me that it was one of the best vocals on that song he has ever heard. And knowing that he has played with the Stones made that was a huge compliment for me. I gave him a business card and we stayed in contact. As a result, we are now great friends and he has contributed his talents on Make Your Move and Undercover. He is truly an amazing musician and I am so grateful to have him in my life. He often refers Tomes and I as his nephew. Tomes likes to call him Uncle Remi. To say that I have jammed with a former Stones member is a dream for me. I grew up listening to the Stones and never thought I would ever meet anyone associated with them. It is always good times chillin’ with Uncle Remi.

AMS Flashback: The Musical Muses of Scott Siegel

By Scott Siegel

I listen to a lot of music, but I get the most influenced by rock. When I am asked what my favorite band is, it is very hard because I get into these phases where I listen to a band for a month straight and say that they are my favorite. Then, the next month I am listening to another band and saying the same thing. Every band I listen to I take the things I like about them and incorporate them into my own music.

One of my favorite performers is Mick Jagger. His stage presence is amazing. He has an attitude when he is on stage. I also started picking up little things that Roger Daltry does. When it comes to vocals, I am very influenced by Bon Scott and Steve Perry. I take the grit and edge from Bon, and the soft technical passion from Perry.

Lately, I have been listening to Dr. Dog. They are very influenced by the Beatles. I have been coming up with lots of new ideas because of their music. They have an old sound to them that I want to someday capture with Arrest My Sister. I like how they are so diverse in their music. Every song sounds different. I have also been listening to the new Maroon 5 album. I think it is one of the best albums of the new millennium. It has also inspired me.

Another thing that grabs my attention is the way an album is mixed. Dr. Dog uses tape when they record the drums. It is very rare these days to use tape. And the quality of the Maroon 5 album is phenomenal.

AMS Flashback: From Muppets to Music

By Scott Siegel

Growing up I always had a love for music. When I was around the age of seven, I think, my parents bought me a drum set. I used to play it for hours. I could keep a pretty good beat. I used to watch the Muppets and whenever Animal would bang on the drums, my eyes were glued to the TV. I guess you could say that I took the wrong qualities from Animal, because, soon after, my parents gave my drum set away. Too many neighbors would complain constantly. I was bummed out, but then moved on to the piano. I pretty much taught myself the chords. I was decent and over the years I took lessons from friends and even lessons at Musicians Institute. I mainly grew up listening to the Stones and the Beatles. My mom being a huge Stones fan, and my dad loving the Beatles. That is what inspired me to play music. People used to tell me that there was no future in music, so I never really pursued it until after culinary arts school. When my parents would go out of town, and I had the house to myself, I would write music and I found a love for singing. I bought a cheap drum set from a friend and I recorded myself singing with the piano and then adding drums. I have over 20 cassette tapes of songs I recorded. It made me want to become a singer/songwriter. I have now written over 500 songs.

AMS Flashback: Evolving as a Singer

By Scott Siegel

AMS front man Scott Siegel © Laura McNamara

When I first introduced the idea of singing to my parents, they offered to pay for me to take lessons. A friend of our family new a girl who gave lessons. Her name is Pat. Once a week I would drive up a winding road in Laguna Beach to Pat’s home. My parents set up the first lesson for me and they also came to it. Pat wanted to get a feel for my range and abilities. She had me sing Daniel by Elton John. That night my parents cried. They were not tears of joy, but tears of: “Oh he is so bad, but I want to support him.” They thought I was so terrible. It made them sad to see their son so passionate about something that shouldn’t happen.

Well, I proved my parents wrong. Three months of exercising my voice and singing such songs as Hey Jude, Candle in the Wind, Waiting for the light to Shine, I Just Called to Say I Love You, and Faithfully. I was on my way to becoming a great singer. Pat and I made a little concert for my parents and I sang Daniel, Faithfully, and Hey Jude. That night my parents cried, again. But this time they were tears of joy. They said to each other: ‘Wow. He is amazing. He sounds great. All that hard work it did pay off.’

I practiced everyday, 30-45 minutes for three months, really exercising my voice. My range grew tremendously. I then brought up the idea of music school. I bet you could guess what my parents thought of that. But that’s another story. After three months of lessons, I convinced my parents to let me quit culinary arts school. They told me I had to be working though. So I got a job at Petsmart as a dog washer. It was a great job. I am an animal lover. During my seven months at Petsmart, I really got my voice in shape and expanded my range. My friend told me about Musicians Institute. He was going there in the fall and said I should do it to. I talked to my parents and they were open minded about it. I decided to wait until spring to go, so I could perfect my voice even more. The only thing though was that I would have to move from Orange County to Hollywood. Pat worked me real hard and I noticed myself getting better and better every day. When it came time to apply for MI, they wanted an audition tape. I had to sing one song a capella, one karaoke, and then hit ten notes. I sang faithfully with the track, and I sang Daniel a capella. Friends and family heard my version of Daniel and couldn’t believe it was me. They were blown away. We sent in my audition and I was soon accepted to MI. I then started looking for a place to live in LA. Luckily, the building that my buddy lived in had availability. I put in my two weeks notice and was on my way to the big city. I was finally going to live on my own. Moving up to LA was a big step for me. But in the long run, I learned how to do things for myself and not have to rely so much on my parents. I moved into Sycamore Terrace about a month before starting Musicians Institute. Most of my furniture came from Ikea. That was the worst thing I have ever done. Most of that stuff is either broken or thrown away. My dad bought me a keyboard and with my iPod, I started to record ideas. I would play chords and sing random lyrics. My dad saw that I was so into writing and recording and knew that an associate at his office was getting rid of his G5 Mac. So my dad bought it from him for a great deal and bought me Pro Tools. That is when my writing abilities rose to a new level. Before, I would just play piano and sing and occasionally record a drum track to it. But as a result of Pro Tools, I learned about producing, and my songs sounded fuller. I have had Pro Tools for four years now and, as a result of it, I have written and recorded more than 400 songs with it. Luckily, my friend that lived in the building is an outstanding guitar player. Every time I needed a solo on one of my songs, I would have him do it. Occasionally, I would record keyboard guitar. I even let Crazy Tomes record a few solos. He actually recorded both organ and guitar solos for the original version of The Night Is on Fire. I must say that MI changed my life. It took my singing to a whole new level. The first day, the teacher told us we had to get up at least four times each semester and sing for the class. The first day only one girl sang. She was amazing. I was so nervous, so I didn’t sing that day. The next week I got up there. From then on, I sang every week. I sang the most out of all the students. Vocal performance class helped me get over stage fright. We’ll I never really had it, but it made me come out of my shell. I would always pick songs that pushed my range. Most students would play it safe, but I was a risk taker. In the long run, it paid off. I worked with a private instructor while attending MI. It is now five years later and I am still working with Lynn Fanelli. I see her every other week. Over they years she has pushed me and brought out the best in me. If you heard me at my first lesson and then heard me now, well, I can honestly say that I hold Lynn 100 percent responsible for that. I never thought I could sing for three hours and not lose my voice. The dream came true. She taught me how to breathe correctly and the five rules of singing. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for Lynn.

AMS Flashback: Arrest My Sister Explores New York City

Arrest My Sister proudly started off 2011 with a true New Year’s “bang,” performing live at Carnegie Hall for the inaugural Genius of Autism celebration. Because the experience was so memorable for each of our band members, we are revisiting the thoughts and emotions each shared just after the milestone experience…

Two AMS band members share thoughts from their visit to New York City in early Jan 2011 for the Genius of Autism Celebration at Carnegie Hall.

Scott Siegel

New York was like a moment that blew away with the wind. It went by so fast… I really couldn’t enjoy it as mus as I wanted. Two days in this big city was not enough. It wasn’t as cold as I expected it to be. Staying at a hotel right in Times Square was so cool. I ate so much food out there. Some of the food was very tasty, and some, well, let’s just say I am glad to be back home. I have come to the conclusion that LA food is better than NY food. I went to two delis and was not impressed. Carnegie Deli had good mousse. That was about it. Maxie’s had great French onion soup. I still don’t know though if the pizza is better in NY. I still love Ball Park and Upper Crust in Orange County. I felt like a celebrity walking around Times Square. Tom took some amazing photos of us, and captured our finest AMS moments on film. There is so much of the city that we missed, but that just means I will be coming back to NY very soon. This was my fourth time going. My sister used to live there, so I visited here a few times over the years. I felt that I bonded more with my band members and my parents. Luckily we made it out of there just before the snow storm; we were the last flight to leave JFK. “Imagine that!”

Jon McCracken

As I’m on this plane heading back to Los Angeles, CA, I gotta say that part of me didn’t want to go back. When I first heard about Arrest My Sister’s show at Carnegie Hall, I was excited. But I was even more excited that I was going to go to New York for the first time. Countless people told me time and time again that I needed to go to this state. I finally see why they said that. The winter weather is harsh, the cities are packed with people, the time change is a trip, and it’s impossible to drive yourself. At the same time the atmosphere was great, the amount of life was thrilling, and I’m pretty sure I had the greatest pizza I have and will ever eat. This was an experience I will never forget. Being in Los Angeles all my life made me think that almost all major cities were pretty much the same. But now I realize that they have a unique character to them that is different everywhere you go. The trip to New York didn’t last anywhere near as long as I would have hoped. New York City is not one that can be done in a week, let alone three days. So I was especially thrilled when my dad mentioned that he would be more than willing to take me back this year. Along with Scott’s parents who were great to have there, I went with three other guys who are not just band members, but great friends. I’m definitely glad that my first time in New York was with them. As psychotic as they are sometimes, they made the trip just that much more fun. Especially when I discovered that Scott had the same enthusiasm about the pizza as I did. So obviously we had pizza every night of the trip. Of course, after being told by about two-dozen people that I had to go to Carnegie Deli, I went to Carnegie Deli. Between the chocolate fudge cake, the 6″ tall slice of apple pie, and the juiciest, biggest burger I’ve ever had, I gotta say that everyone was right. You can’t go to New York without going to Carnegie. In the end, New York City is quite possible my favorite city in the US. And it’s in my top five best cities in the world. I know I only got a taste of it, but despite anything bad about the city, I know that I love New York City. I wouldn’t move there, but I will definitely visit as many times as I can.

AMS Flashback: Magic at Carnegie Hall

Arrest My Sister proudly started off 2011 with a true New Year’s “bang,” performing live at Carnegie Hall for the inaugural Genius of Autism celebration. Because the experience was so memorable for each of our band members, we are revisiting the thoughts and emotions each shared just after the milestone experience…

By Scott Siegel

The best thing for me about playing at Carnegie Hall was that, as we were playing on the stage, for the first time I looked back at my band members and really saw how good they are. I always new they were amazing, but watching them play was like magic. The energy and passion that they had in their playing was spectacular. Sometimes as a front man, you need to step back and let the rest of the band shine in the spotlight, and that is what I did. Also, I think what brings out the best in us, is when there are a lot of people. There were 600 people in the audience. During Tomes’ guitar solo, he got a standing ovation. I bet if you asked him how he felt at that very moment, he wouldn’t be able to tell you in a few words. I think as a band, we get better every show. Like our last show in Reno we played for 15 minutes and sounded the best we have ever sounded. But next stop for us is Austin Texas, to play South by Southwest. I am so excited, I was there last year. I dreamed of playing that festival while I was there. I am so honored to be playing this year.

Homemade Music

By Scott Siegel

Somewhat of a productive day… I got in a few hours of mixing on one of my songs for my upcoming record. I have one song 95 percent mixed; and let me tell you, I’ve spent over 10 hours mixing it all together. That’s excluding the time it takes to record the song. I am trying to make a great quality record to show what I can do in my own home. Tomes came over yesterday and recorded some more guitar. He played classical stuff on one of my ballads, and even added a solo. It sounds so amazing. I am so blown away with his work. Also, I suggested that he add slide to another ballad. It sounds like the Layla by Derek and the Domino’s. I loved the slide so much that I’m having him play slide on another song. Well, I’ll keep you guys updated with the new record.

Ahhh… the Sweet Silence

By Scott Siegel

Living miles away from Hollywood is awesome. You don’t hear helicopters and sirens at three in the morning. I can actually get a decent night’s sleep for once. Culver City is so quiet and peaceful. My cats are finally getting used to the move. I think they like the fact that they have so much more room.

We had two shows last week, and I think we performed really well. We played a few new covers we learned. I think Thursdays show was one to put in the books, as an AMS classic performance.

I am a collector of movies. I have more movies than probably days I have left to live. I have yet to see all of them. I plan to eventually watch more of them as I keep on collecting them. Most people use Netflix or whatever, but I like to own a physical copy.

I am still working on my record…

Tomes came over on Wednesday and recorded the best guitar solo ever. He spent like an hour redoing it over and over. I cant wait for you guys to hear the record.

Life is Perfect

By Scott Siegel

I finally got back into writing again. Well just one song – inspired by a certain someone.

I have been doing a tremendous amount of karaoke and I am currently building a recording studio in my house. I am so excited to finally record like I used to. The internet here sucks so bad. We paid for top of the line service and we are getting no action. I am trying to finish my new record, but that is under construction at the moment. I probably would have more to say but right now I am drawing a big blank in my mind. I wish I had more to talk about, but sometimes I just don’t and everyone has to deal with it, like I do.

I recently planned a trip to Vegas to celebrate the 21 years AMS drummer Jon McCracken has been alive. I think it is going to be the best five days ever.

Also, I can’t wait until summer rolls in just because I love the heat and I love to lay by the pool.

I managed to fall in love. It is amazing. Life for me right now is perfect. So far this week is going really well, I am so excited for band practice tomorrow. It is going to be fun. I also can’t wait until the show on the 20th. We are going to rock the house like we always do…

You Don’t Mess With The Adam Sandler

By Scott Siegel

Adam Sandler is my favorite actor of all the time. I have seen every movie that he has been in except for his latest one that is still in the theaters. I guess you can call me a dork, because I can recite every line from Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison and The Wedding Singer – the third being my favorite Sandler film. I don’t know why people try to compare him to the lead guy in 40 Year Old Virgin, what’s his name? Anyway, I hate to say someone is better, but come on, have you seen that movie? I shut it off half way through it.

Even some of Sandler’s serious movies are amazing, like Spanglish. That movie will always be a classic to me. It is kind of hard to not like Sandler. He always does his role justice. I think You Don’t Mess With The Zohan is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. His accent was dead on. But what really makes his movies amazing is the actors he gets to star in them. Like Rob Schneider. He is by far the best in Sandler films. If you are not a fan of Sandler’s movies, then you should do yourself a favor and become a fan. He has so many classic movies that it is kind of hard to not like him.

And to change the topic, this is so off the wall, but Simpsons is better than Family Guy. I just had to clear that up.

Goodbye Hollywood

By Scott Siegel

Now back to me moving out of Hollywood. Moving day was a sad day for me. I almost cried as I moved box after box into the truck. My apartment was just perfect for me. I enjoyed every moment I was in it. Weeks prior to moving, I started packing my stuff. They say don’t pack too early, but I didn’t listen and I packed anyway. I then found myself going through boxes, even taped shut ones just to find a DVD to watch. I even taped my chords away in a box and had to open it. I am always going to miss Sycamore Terrace. I still haven’t gotten used to living in Culver City. But I think, over time, it will feel like home.

If I had enough money, I would have apartment 104 be a second home for me. A place where I can crash, after partying with friends and going to karaoke. But it is time to move on and start accomplishing my goals. Even though I live 25 minutes away from Hollywood, I was still out there almost every night last week. Part of me didn’t want to move. Part of me would have been just fine in Hollywood. But part of me just wanted to have some time alone. That alone time is happening right now. I am very lonely. Tomes and Carly came over for dinner. When they had to leave, I did all that I could to get them to stay.

It’s All Because Of Mom and Dad

By Scott Siegel

So you may say that I’m a dreamer, but I am not the only one. There are many people out there that have dreams. Some spend a whole lifetime thinking about their dreams, but they never live them. And then there are some people that every opportunity they get, they live each dream to the fullest.

Growing up I have always been a dreamer. I would always picture myself doing certain things. Like at one point in my life, I used to be obsessed with Legos. I would always build houses and buildings. I dreamed of being an architect. I also always loved to bake cookies growing up. So I dreamed of being a baker. Both dreams never came true. I guess I was not that passionate about them. My parents thought that graphic design would be good for me. So after high school, my parents and I looked into it. I didn’t really fall in love with it.

What caught my attention was culinary pursuits. I soon enrolled in culinary arts school and stayed for eight months. I guess parents can convince you to do anything. If I had it my way, I would have never gone. I wanted to do music with my life. But at the time, they thought it would go nowhere. So I gave up eight months of my life. I hated most of it, but the stuff I did enjoy, I took with me. I can play music and cook a great meal. What girl wouldn’t want to date me?

Now, I am living my dreams, and it is all thanks to my parents. They are the most amazing people in the world. I love you guys so much.

A Love and Hate Kind of Thing

By Scott Siegel

Sometimes I just want to go away and never come back. Kind of like a permanent vacation. I feel that sometimes I just need a break from reality.

I am at a point in my life where I need to think about everything I do and ask myself is this the direction I want to go in. Ultimately, I want to be a successful musician playing my original music for thousands and thousands of people. One day, I would like to go through all of my home recordings and re-record most of them. I also want to collect a bunch of vintage gear and build a professional recording studio.

I have played many gigs in the last couple of years. I have enjoyed most of them and some I didn’t like. To this date, the most exciting gig that I played was probably the infamous Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles. Weeks before that gig, I became more and more excited as it came closer. Also what makes a gig even better is when you have lots of friends and family there to support you, who are there to see you. The Royal Hawaiian was also so much fun. Just playing the bar scene and having drunk people sing along is amazing. I love getting up on chairs and belting Highway to Hell, or standing on my amp during the funk part of Give Me Love. I am bummed out that gig didn’t last very long.

I am still fighting a never ending cold. I know people that have had it longer than me, and are still fighting it. I have taken so many prescription drugs, but none of them seem to work for me. I guess I just need to let it go away on its own.

There is no greater feeling in the world than after singing. I go to karaoke about four nights a week and I have the time of my life, even though I get asked to sing the same songs over and over again. I know why and I am very grateful for it. I know I should probably be home resting, but I can’t help it. Karaoke is like a drug for me. I sometimes impress myself at karaoke. I hit notes I never thought I could, or I sing songs better than I have before. If you are ever bored and want to have some fun, go to farmers market for karaoke. It is a blast. As far as playing in a band, there is no greater feeling than playing your original music.

Scott’s Pick: Rock Bands

By Scott Siegel

This is the first of many lists to come. The music I listen to inspires my writing and my vocal abilities. This list is comprised of 11 bands/artists who I listen to and who made me the singer/musician I am today. If I ever got to meet any of them, I would tell them how much they have impacted my life. They are not really in any order just because it is hard to number them. I am going to release 11 at a time. So enjoy!!!!!

  1. The Rolling Stones
  2. I grew up listening to the Stones. Some people say that they like older Stones better, but I pretty much like everything they did. My favorite years of the Stones were from 67-71. They had one great record after another. It’s hard to say which one is my favorite. One day it’s Sticky Fingers and the next day it’s Their Satanic Majesties Request. Each member of the Stones made a great contribution.

Mick Jagger is my favorite frontman of all time. I take a lot from him, and incorporate it into my performance. Keith Richards and his legendary simplistic riffs make him a true genius of rock and roll. Bill Wyman always knew what to play when it came to the bass. He gave each song what it needed. Brian Jones, who was a great blues guitar player, formed the Stones into a great blues rock and roll band. Mick Taylor also contributed a lot to the music. His contribution on Moonlight Mile is amazing. For his short time in the band, he did some great guitar work. Replacing Taylor, Ronnie Wood played some of the best slide guitar I have ever heard. Charlie Watts on drums makes this band amazing. I saw them in 2004 and they put on the best show I have ever seen. It is amazing how they still put out records. A Bigger Bang holds a candle to any early Stones record.

  3. The Beatles
  4. I also grew up listening to the Beatles. My parents played the Stones and the Beatles every time we drove in the car. Kind of like the Stones, I would often say that Rubber Soul is my favorite Beatles record. But then, I hear Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, and A Hard Day’s Night, and have second thoughts.

Paul McCartney is my other favorite bass player, the first one being John Entwhistle. He added the coolest parts to each song. Magical Mystery Tour has some of the best bass playing. Paul’s vocal range is amazing. The gritty high notes like in the end of Hey Jude. I just have to say “Wow.” George Harrison is the best slide player. The song Real Love has the best solo ever written. I can probably say that he is my favorite Beatle. Ringo Starr always played what the song needed. With perfect fills and beats, he paved the way for some of rock’s best drummers. John Lennon had so much soul when he sang. He is an outstanding rhythm player and played some great solos. It would have been cool to see the Beatles in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and even now. But, I think they went out at the peak of their career. They have influenced some of my favorite bands that are out today. About a year ago, I saw Paul at the Hollywood Bowl. I almost cried, because he was that good.

  5. The Who
  6. The Who are my favorite band to watch. I own almost every DVD of theirs. Live at Kilburn is the best live DVD I have ever seen. Lately I’ve been using some of Roger Daltrey‘s moves when I perform live. I sometimes swing the mic like he does. I am perfecting it every time I perform. Pete Townshend is a musical genius. He wrote some of rocks best songs. Who’s Next is by far my favorite who album. If I could only listen to ten albums for the rest of my life and no more than that, this album would definitely be on that list. I watched the making of “Who’s Next” and it was amazing. Townshend made some of the craziest synth sounds I have ever heard. Baba O’Riley is one of the best album openers of all time. I can honestly say that Townshend is my favorite rhythm/ lead player. John Entwhistle is my favorite bass player of all time. Watching him sing live while playing those bass lines is incredible. He is very skilled when it comes to that. I’m like “how does he do that?” Keith Moon is my favorite Who member and drummer. For not using a high hat most of the time, he can play the drums like no one else. He is always entertaining to watch. What really got me into him was watching Live at the Isle of Wight. I was blown away with the fills and grooves he played. When you put all four of them on the stage together, they are the true definition of rock and roll. I did get to see them years ago, unfortunately Entwhistle was not with the band. They were still amazing. (more…)

Life: Have A Blast Living It

By Scott Siegel

This is probably going to be the greatest blog ever. This blog is going to be about something very cool and awesome. This blog will make you feel happy inside and make all of your dreams come true. I am writing this blog for everyone that is doing what they want to do in life. The most important part of life is having a blast living it.

I know I am living life to the fullest, and so should everyone else. Life right now is so perfect for me that I can’t say anything negative about it. I am even writing very uplifting music right now and loving every part of it. When I feel happy inside, I influence the people around me, and they all start to feel happy. I have finally found that special someone. She is an amazing person and has a great heart. She is also a big part of my happiness. I don’t ever look at the negative parts of life, only the positive.

The greatest achievement in life for me is being able to express my feelings through words and music. Some people express their feelings in many different ways. But when I get on the stage and sing my heart out, I am having the best moment ever. If only it could last forever. When life throws a curve ball at me, I throw a fastball right back. I never let anyone or anything get in the way of me living my dream.

Blogging Overdose

A Blog On People Writing A Bog On Someone Else Writing A Blog

This is nothing to laugh about. People out there are blogging like crazy. They get so obsessed with it that they write two or three a day just to be ahead of everyone else. I suggested that someone write a blog on blog writing and he actually did. That guy has too much time on his hands. He needs to find some hobbies, like the drums for example. Its not just people expressing their opinions, but people sharing life experiences and much more. Must people blog about the dumbest shit ever? It’s ok to do that, but sometimes it makes me wanna throw up.

I read a blog once about nothing. It was so pointless it made me wonder why I read it. So if anybody tries to write a blog to top this one, well I can tell you, I will rain on your parade.

So anyway, I just got back from karaoke and I am tired. I actually did something tonight, unlike the guy who wrote a blog about blogging. Like I said before, people have too much time on their hands. I could go on and on just to fill up 250 words but what is the point. There are probably some bored people out there who will actually count how many words this blog has. Well if you really want to know, just count them all and then write a blog about how you counted all the words on a blog on people writing a blog on someone else writing a blog.

All or Nothing

By Scott Siegel

This is a blog about absolutely nothing. Well it could be about something, but I have no idea what to talk about. Sometimes when you do nothing, you feel like you’re getting nothing done.

For me, if I am getting nothing done, I go crazy. It’s ok to do nothing, but it will take a longer time to accomplish what your goals are if you just sit around.

Sometimes I do not get enough sleep because it just wastes your time. But then the next day people notice it. I got rid of cable TV in my apartment years ago because it is a waste of time. I post facebook comments way too often. I guess I have so much time on my hands. You’d think with that much time, I would have doubled my 300 song catalogue. Well, it is because I do nothing sometimes and nothing leads to falling behind in life.

Sometimes I see what others have accomplished and I say to myself, I want to be just like that person. So sometimes I work hard, and sometimes I just do nothing. Nothing is good only if you finished everything you wanted to do. I was at my parents house recently, and I watched way too much TV. It is like a brainwasher. It sucks you in for hours, and then when you look at the clock, it is already way late in the morning. And you ask yourself: why did I give the TV my life for so many hours?

Don’t Wear Out Your Welcome

By Scott Siegel

It is very hard to get stuff done when you have people constantly coming in and out of your work area. Cats are bad enough. They don’t leave you alone. They are like bill collectors. Sometimes friends are like that, they overstay their welcome. But when I need to get work done, I throw the cats out like a parent throwing their kid out when he/she turns 18.

The only time I really get shit done is early in the morning, like three o clock. Other than that, I do anything else, but nothing. Nothing leads to not getting anything done. And not getting anything done leads to falling behind. And if you fall behind, you might never win.

I have a friend that way overstayed his welcome. It was not the best five months of my life. But I had fun while he was here.

My advice for handling people that stay too long is to just let them down slowly and nice. That’s what I always do. Or sometimes I just say: ‘Sorry, but I am going into my studio. You can stay here or go home, but I will be in my studio probably for the rest of the night.’ Or, sometimes, if you just do nothing, your friends will get so bored that they might leave on their own. If they do
decide to leave without force, you can go bake a cake and celebrate with some booze or a smoke. But me, I just record.

Feline Friendship

By Scott Siegel

Living with two cats is like living under Satan’s roof. Well, maybe not that dramatic. I love my cats more than words can say, but when I want my peace and quiet, I simply will not find it in my lovely apartment, which rests in the beautiful heart of Hollywood, with fresh air and quiet night life.

I made that up, but you know how Los Angeles is.

Anyway, back to my two feline roommates. The fattest one likes to get into anything you leave around, or anything that is put away. I’m just about to fall asleep when I hear a bag crinkle, or something fall off of the dresser. Sometimes I move the bag and move on with my life. Or I have a man to man talk with him to try and settle things. Cats sometimes don’t want to listen to what you say, they just meow and do it all over again. So now it gets to the point where I shut the door when I go to bed leaving them out of my room. But at like ten in the morning, which is super early for me, I hear 2 cats meow and meow, about an hour to 2 hours go by and I finally say ****. I know they want food, so I feed them and go back to bed. When I record music, they are also a pain, but that is a whole other story that will have to wait until next time. But cats are a man’s best friend.
